Mongolia | Embroidery Workshop

How are you? Fine. How are you? What a beautiful workshop! This room is filled with the work of your craftswomen: everything for life in gers (yurts). There is everything from carpets, bed sheets and blankets to children’s clothing. When was your company founded? How many employees do you have? Our company, Uisinei, was founded in October 2017, so we are approaching our first anniversary You’ve built this in just a year? Yes, and we have about thirty employees. All of our workers are women, eighteen and up. Our country has high unemployment and a low standard of living, so in order to provide a livelihood to women who were at home, Ms. Tsederkhan and I started this company. And how is the project going now? Well, I’m still managing the project, and we’ve been making the traditional Kazakh items for a year now. You’re so successful to have done all of this in such a short time. Everything is so beautiful! The carpet that we we’re making is 60 cm x 90 cm. It’ll take fifteen days to make. As you’ve seen, there’s a lot of work put into everything from embroidery to carpets and clocks. Each item is the work of one set of hands. So everything here, such as this ger and its tiny details, is made by hand? Yes, they’re handmade. Typically, how long does it take to make one of these? We make about ten or twenty. In a day? Ten or twenty? We can. Other days, we make around five. OK. Everything here is handmade, even the clocks. You can wear this Kazakh clothing for about five years. How long does it take to make a carpet? It depends on the size. A 2m x 1m carpet is different from a 2.5m x 1.3m carpet. For example, it takes about 15 to 20 days to make a two-meter carpet. 15 to 20 days? Yes, days. It takes a very long time because they’re all handmade. This wonderful work, it really supports women. What a wonderful place! I wish you the best of luck for the future. Thank you. Thank you.
